Train interferes with Paris

Seven rivers in the peloton crossed with the safety barrier down, but were not sanctioned for breaking race rules.
Sir Bradley Wiggins finished 18th in his final race for Team Sky, 31 seconds behind German winner John Degenkolb.
"It's the most beautiful race in the world and we get bothered by a train," said French champion Arnaud Demare.
"This needs to be taken care of, it was dangerous. We went through but it was close."
One rider from the Belgian Lotto team was clipped by a barrier which came down seconds before the 60kph train sped past.
Race organisers said the peloton were 10m from the barrier as it started to descend and that the leading riders "could not stop in safe conditions".
A police motorcycle stopped the rest of the pack, before organisers of the 151-mile race slowed the leaders to allow the pack to catch up.
Former British champion and Olympic track medallist Rob Hayles, commentating on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra, said: "That could have ended in disaster.
"You could see riders nip across but that train was not slowing down."
A similar incident occurred last year but it affected only the eight men in the breakaway.

Race the Tube - Sprint

Superhuman feats are no stranger to YouTube. While there’s generally a strong chance that the humans going to clinch the challenge (since it was, um, uploaded to YouTube), the suspense never ceases to get our hearts pumpen’. This week, a crazy runner took on London’s tube with a camera strapped to his head, and the result’ll will leave you breathless (or at least motivate a gym visit).

Elite Daily - Homeless Millennial Survives By Picking Up Women Every Night

This piece of docu-journalism about a homeless kid and his decidedly millennial approach to making ends meet set the Internet aflame this week. Thought-provoking, strange, and totally dark, the video has 3.5 million views since it was published on Monday and is a breakout hit for the “Voice of Generation Y” blog (it’s their first video to crack a million views).

KLM - Lost & Found Service

Dutch Airlines KLM racked up almost 5 million views this week on a video that profiles a beagle named Sherlock who trots around the airport finding (and returning?) lost property to unsuspecting travelers. While we were sure this was a gripping piece of cinema verité, it turned out to be a marketing stunt (that little hound is nothing more than an actor). While we're still confused by the brand strategy that sold this through, we can agree that cuteness in all forms is worth celebrating.

Special 3-D Delivery From Space

Engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, unboxed some special cargo from the International Space Station on April 6: the first items manufactured in space with a 3-D printer.
The items were manufactured as part of the 3-D Printing in Zero-G Technology Demonstration on the space station to show that additive manufacturing can make a variety of parts and tools in space. These early in-space 3-D printing demonstrations are the first steps toward realizing an additive manufacturing, print-on-demand “machine shop” for long-duration missions and sustaining human exploration of other planets, where there is extremely limited ability and availability of Earth-based resupply and logistics support. In-space manufacturing technologies like 3-D printing will help NASA explore Mars, asteroids, and other locations.

Google, Algorithms,Robotics...

GOOGLE says its goal is to use algorithms to analyze those on-screen images and do things like highlight blood vessels and display critical information on screen. In other words, says the Google spokesperson, a new system would “help surgeons see better during surgery or help them more easily access information they rely on as they operate.” Similar technology powers the image-editing tools in Google’s photos app, as well as automated YouTube upload analysis that can recognize pirated content.

GOOGLE is no stranger to robotics or healthcare technology. The tech giant owns several robotics companies, including Boston Dynamics and its arsenal of robo-dogs and nimble-but-drunk bipedal bots. And the Google X Life Sciences division has created everything from contact lenses that measure blood-sugar levels to tremor-proof spoons for Parkinson’s patients.

Now, the search giant is teaming up with Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon subsidiary to build what the two hope are the ultimate platform for robotic surgery.

Groupon rises to occasion by responding to all Banana Bunker Facebook posts
The only thing better than the comments on an item like a Banana Bunker is when the company that posts it gets in on the action. The folks at Groupon had a field day when the jokes starting rolling in proving that social media marketing can be incredibly fun (and great for business) if done right.
